Track. Calculate. Take Action.
Emissions Tracking Software for Greener Ports – emiTr
emiTr is a powerful emissions tracking software designed as a comprehensive digital inventory of a port’s emissions, capturing both direct and indirect sources.

Developed by ABL Group in collaboration with Shoreham Port (a UK Trust Port), this tool provides an essential framework for port emissions tracking and management.
Ports and harbours substantially contribute to the maritime industry’s carbon and pollutant footprint via direct and indirect emissions. As the maritime industry commits to reducing its carbon footprint by 70% by 2040 and achieving net-zero by 2050, meaningful change requires action from the whole shipping value chain.
How we use emiTr to support our emissions consulting services
At ABL, we use emiTr as a tool to support our emissions consulting services, enabling clients to efficiently track, analyse, and visualise their emissions data. This includes:
Identifying what your emissions are.
Understanding where they come from.
Assessing potential costs.
Highlighting the highest ESG-related risks.
Pinpointing the most significant opportunities for emissions reduction.
“We are delighted to be working with the team at ABL Group, who are helping us make the identification and tracking of our emissions simple and straightforward to do.
This is important data for us to understand the impact we make, and we will use this data to inform decisions in the future as we aim to improve our energy efficiency and reduce pollution across the Port’s footprint.”

How does emiTr work?
emiTr gives ports and harbours the power to TRACK emissions, CALCULATE the cost and risk of their emissions, and facilitate the necessary data and information to put down a roadmap to TAKE ACTION against their emissions footprint.
Based on the “Port Emissions Toolkit”, emiTr enables our clients to visualise and understand their emissions footprint via a series of configurable graphics, calculating the potential carbon cost in monetary terms, and identifying the biggest emitters, thereby informing action in line with national and international reduction targets.

Automated emissions calculation
emiTr allows users to enter the fuel/electricity usage of all their assets. The portal then automatically calculates emissions based on the already collected emissions factors and formulae.
Enhancing port emissions tracking with AIS data integration
Port emissions tracking is enhanced through emiTr’s ability to calculate emissions from vessels within the port boundaries automatically using AIS data.
Comprehensive emissions profiling
Emissions of both greenhouse gases (e.g., Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide) and pollutants (e.g., Oxides of Nitrogen, Oxides of Sulfur, Particulate Matter, Carbon Monoxide) are calculated to give a comprehensive overview of a facility’s emissions profile, providing valuable input for emissions consulting.
Interactive emissions insights with advanced filtering options
These results can then be accessed online as interactive charts with filters by emission sources and scopes, including or excluding tenants, and by date periods, leveraging the power of emissions tracking software to provide actionable insights.
Assessing carbon costs with market-based measures
The monetary value of the CO2 emissions, based on carbon credit schemes such as the EU ETS, is also shown – an indication of the kind of costs a port may face if market-based measures are implemented in the future.
Understanding how emiTr calculates port emissions

Greenhouse Gases

Air Pollutants
Using emissions factors, emiTr provides a robust framework for port emissions tracking by calculating the amount of pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, NOx, SOx, CO) and greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, [CO2e]) emitted through the port’s operations. As a comprehensive emission tracking software, it also identifies and calculates emissions across three different scopes:
SCOPE 1
Port direct emissions
Direct emissions under direct control of the port, e.g. port-owned vessels, vehicles, and heating infrastructure.
SCOPE 2
Port indirect emissions
Indirect emissions, e.g. electricity purchased for use within the port boundary.
SCOPE 3
Other indirect sources
Indirect emissions associated with tenant operations, e.g. tenants’ cargo handling equipment, berthed ships, rail locomotives, electricity and port employee vehicles.

emiTr’s value to you
Ports and other maritime facilities, such as shipyards, offshore wind sites, and even the oil and gas industry, can get ahead of the curve by leveraging port emissions tracking to identify their carbon footprint and taking informed, data-driven actions through our emissions consulting services and emission tracking software.
Record the success and impact of your initiatives introduced to reduce emissions, and report on the ROI of these initiatives to stakeholders.
Data and in-depth analysis provided by emission tracking software can inform future decisions and CAPEX expenditure on infrastructure changes to reduce emissions.
Highly configurable to match the requirements and style of any company, client, or project.
emiTr gives you the vision to set a roadmap to net-zero.
Date-based graphs and charts allow users to identify trends and illustrate the effectiveness of emissions reduction strategies, supporting emissions consulting efforts.
Monitor and identify specific sources of high emissions with the full asset list available in emiTr, and view the emissions of each item displayed, strengthening port emissions tracking capabilities.
Each type of emission can be investigated to view its sources, enabling a detailed and actionable emissions profile.
Simplify the complex task of generating a full emissions breakdown by allowing users to enter data routinely, leveraging the power of emission tracking software for seamless monitoring.

“The first step in any capital expenditure decision-making regarding infrastructure spend relating to emissions reduction is to have a clear picture as to what existing emissions are and where they are coming from.
Paul Martin, ABL Maritime Director
Port emissions are a complex web, which is produced both directly and indirectly within a port’s jurisdiction, and it is essential to map these out.”
